Abstract:
Transposition is a mesio-distal interchange of tooth position, usually explained by genetic influences within a multifactorial inheritance model. The anomaly is associated with other congenital traits such as tooth agenesis and peg-shaped maxillary lateral incisors. Females are affected more often than males and the left side more frequently than the right side. The condition is more frequent in the maxilla than in the mandible; the most common forms being transpositions of maxillary cuspid/premolar, maxillary cuspid/lateral and mandibular cuspid/lateral. This case report describes the diagnosis, treatment alternatives and orthodontic treatment of a patient with bilateral transposition and congenitally missing teeth.
