Abstract
A study was conducted on parental satisfaction with services in pediatric units. Participants, 422 parents, had children in four inpatient and one outpatient pediatric unit. The majority were mothers, married or cohabiting, with post-compulsory education. The Pediatric Family Satisfaction Questionnaire (PFSQ) was used. The PFSQ is a five-point Likert-type paper-and-pencil questionnaire with 35 positive statements on hospital service and accommodation, the nurses, the doctors, and the child life therapists, as well as offering parents to add their comments in own words. Parents filled out the questionnaire at the child’s discharge. The majority of parents’ were satisfied with most of the items asked about in the statements. A number of parents were not fully satisfied with items regarding furnishing, teamwork of staff, collaboration of staff with parents, information provision to parents, and the doctors familiarity with the child’s medical history. Study results indicate that good services in the pediatric units can be improved. Suggestions thereon are proposed.
