Abstract
Við mat á afleiðingum fjármálakreppunnar á geðheilbrigði barna og unglinga þarf að taka mið af stöðunni fyrir kreppu. Þótt nýir áhættuþættir hafi komið til má ekki horfa fram hjá því að vægi annarra þátta gæti minnkað. Velta má fyrir sér hvort breyttar aðstæður foreldra, meðal annars styttri vinnutími og atvinnuleysi, leiði til þess að foreldrar hafi meiri tíma til að sinna sínum nánustu. Þannig gæti orðið jákvæð breyting á verðmætamati og aukin samkennd skapast innan fjölskyldna. UNICEF, Barnahjálp Sameinuðu þjóðanna, skilgreinir hina réttu mælingu á stöðu þjóðar með hliðsjón af því hversu vel hún sinnir börnum sínum, ekki síst heilsu þeirra. Árið 2007, á toppi íslensku hagsveiflunnar, gerði UNICEF könnun meðal 15 ára nema á Norðurlöndunum þar sem þeir íslensku skáru sig úr, til dæmis upplifðu 9,8% þeirra sig utanveltu í samfélaginu (meðaltal 6,4%) og 10,3% þeirra sögðu sig einmana (meðaltal 7,3%).1
