Icelandic translation and adaptation of WASI in a sample of children in grade 1 and 8 of primary and middle schoolCitation
Wechslers Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI) was translated and adapted for use in Iceland. 140 healthy children in two age groups were tested using the Icelandic version: the first group of children ranged from six years and seven months to seven years of age (n = 70) and the second group of children ranged from 13 years and seven months to fourteen years of age (n - 70). Only 14% of the items in Matrix Reasoning, 17% in Vocabulary and 27% in Similarities had the same item difficulty as in the American version of the test. Split-half reliabilities of the subtests were similar to the American version. The reliability coefficients for the subtests Vocabulary, Similarities and Matrix Reasoning were 0.82 - 0.88. The split-half reliability coefficient for Block Design was 0.76. Principal axis factoring revealed two factors that explained 52,3% of the total variance of the four subtests. One of the factors consisted of two verbal subtests, Similarities and Vocabulary, and the other of two performance subtests, Matrix Reasoning and Block Design. Thus, the factor structure of the Icelandic version is the same as the American version.
