Abstract
The relationship between scores on attitude scales and attitude accessibility was studied. The hypothesis was that the stronger the attitude the more accessible that attitude is in memory. Two experiments are described. In the first study attitudes were measured by assessing lexical decisions and by the use of questionaires with 5 and 7 point scales. In the latter study the two methods of attitude measurement were applied simultaneously. The results show that there is a relationship between attitude strength and response latency. The stronger the attitude the shorter the response time.
