Abstract

Í greininni er fjallað um rannsóknir á tjáskiptum foreldra og fatlaðra barna. Vakin er athygli á mótsagnakenndum rannsóknarniðurstöðum, sem bæði má rekja til aðferðafræðilegra erfiðleika og sérstakra erfiðleika við rannsóknir á fötluðum. Niðurstöður flestra rannsókna benda þó til þess, að erfiðleikar komi fram í tjáskiptum foreldra og fatlaðra barna á fyrstu ævimánuðum barnanna. Þessir erfiðleikar aukast yfirleitt og taka á sig ýmsar myndir þegar börnin eldast. Rætt er um þróun aðferðafræði við tjáskiptarannsóknir, Með tilkomu nýrra greiningaraðferða á atferli má ætla að unnt verði að átta sig betur en áður á eðli tjáskipta milli foreldra og fatlaðra barna.

This article discusses research work in the field of communication between parents and handicapped children. Attention is drawn to contradictory research results due both to methodological difficulties and specific problems in research work in the field of handicap. Most research show a disturbance in the normal flow of communication between parents and handicapped children from the first months of life. These difficulties have a tendancy to increase and get diversified as the children grow older. The development of methodology in the field of communication research is discussed. With new methods of data analysis new possibilities of understanding the nature of communication between parents and handicapped children have emerged.
